  Donna Moen, PNW artist, started working with watercolor in the ‘80’s. She was privileged to be a part of a studio group hosted by William & Lorraine Phillips for 13 years. Over the years she referenced her own photos and also painted many commissions of client’s children, homes, pets, and more from their photos. Her paintings are beautifully realistic while keeping the elements that make watercolor pieces so unique. 

   After 36 years of watercolor painting, Donna found a refreshed love for art when she discovered the Encaustic medium. She began reaching out to other encaustic artists, touring studios and inquiring/learning about the medium so she could begin her own exploration. She has found the art community so generous in helping source the wax and sharing techniques. The approach to this medium was all new to her but her accumulated knowledge of composition and color have carried her through the transition and the results speak for themselves.

  Donna's encaustic pieces draw inspiration from arial views of the world around us. Some of them even include organic elements like beach pebbles. She uses round, square, and rectangle cradled boards, creating a wide variety of looks. Her pieces are beautiful for both homes and commercial spaces with the contemporary aesthetic and dimension they bring to a space. The option to choose the overall color palette and dimensions when commissioning pieces, makes her work ideal for interior designers who want to provide their clients with one of a kind art installations and homeowners who have a specific design vision.

  From her encaustic of Mt. Rainier to the arial views of the ocean shore hitting beach pebbles and all the amazing abstract pieces, Donna's talent makes each piece uniquely beautiful.  She continues to do watercolor when inspiration hits or commissions come in, but her main focus is on Encaustics. One of her largest commission pieces had to be created in her garage to accommodate the size but no piece is too big for her!

  Recently the gallery Donna was a part of closed. After over 30 years of being in that co-op, she is excited for what comes next and felt that a website would give her a new way to connect with those who follow her work as well as meeting new people.
